This class has allowed me to reflect more on my relationship with technology and evaluate if it is healthy or not. Technology is something that I am grateful for in life but I'm thankful to enjoy spending more time with people in person and exploring this beautiful world. The main technological device that occupies majority of my time is my computer. It is a necessity for my future that I stay on top of my responsibilities for each course that I’m taking at the time. Other than that, when it comes to my use of technology It’s very slim. I honestly watch tv more than spending time on social media. I am a believer that doing research strengthens your knowledge and fosters more critical thinking and better analytical skills. Applying that same belief too; is technology making me smarter or being more misleading? I definitely feel it is making me smarter because I’m able to put my good research skills to work and utilize technology the way it needs to be. Even though there are several aspects surrounding technology as I get older and wiser, it has become necessary for me to stay away from unreliable information and choices. With that knowledge I don't have to worry about technology, there is so much in store next that is going to be more advanced and accessible that's just a part of the society that we live in.
My parents over the years have become more intrigued with how great technology is and the things that you can learn and all of the helpful aspects that it adds to their everyday life. My dad is not into social media at all but he enjoys being able to stay up to date revolving current events with the use of his Smartphone as he would say he can watch his favorite sports teams and top news updates from anywhere in the world. As for my mom she has been a military wife to my dad for over 30 years and she has been to so many places in the world. What is a huge positive for her is that she has been able to stay in touch with all of the people that she has met thanks to social apps. Lastly for my friends and I it’s awesome that we have FaceTime, with us getting older and moving on to better things. We are not able to see each other in person as much as we would like and it’s a blessing to be able to have that form of communication.
Even though I don’t spend a lot of time on social media, that doesn't exclude me from my online footprint. All of the social media sites that you can find me on are Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook. The first thing that a prospective employer would see if they were to look at any of my social media sites, is positive and appropriate entertaining things. Like pictures of me with my boyfriend, family and friends. Also things that I am interested in that are fun and would uplift someone's day. I do also have a LinkedIn but honestly at the moment it is on private mode as I'm still learning my way around. But as I go into my senior year it is a goal of mines to add my personal achievements and more about me and my background before the spring semester. With all of my year long social sites and LinkedIn profile a prospective employer will know how responsible, respecting, and communicative that I am. I plan to keep my online presence slim and only partake in the things online that will bring me joy and help better my life. My plan is to become a Public Relations Specialist and with hard work in the field become a Communications manager or Director one day. A wise Professor once told me that if that is work that I want to go into, it will be beneficial if I keep a respectable profile and that will help with my current and future professional growth.
