What is not to love about technology, in today's time there are so many different options that it feels like the list is becoming endless. Making the way we do things in our everyday life easier, practical and more efficient. Things like electricity, software, medical, transportation, mechanical, and energy. These are all things that help us communicate with friends and family, also tools to help us progress and flourish throughout time. One thing in particular that is great about technological impacts is that not everyone knows all that is out there. With it being summertime lets learn more about something fun, an easier way to identify a song that you hear but don't know the artist or the name of it.
Shazam Entertainment was founded in 1999 by Mukherjee, Chris Barton, Philip Inghelbrecht and Avery Wang. Creating a software that is made to identify any music playing near you. In 2002 when this masterpiece launched there were not any smartphones yet or any apps. With Shazam of the past, people had to call a specific number and then put their phone near the radio. After that a person would receive a text of what the song is that they are listening to. Due to Shazam being more of a futuristic advancement at the time there were some complications. Barton and Wang were trying to establish something but the other technological components to make that happen didn't exist yet. Bartons idea for Shazam to recognize songs, was never happening on its own. The idea arose from Mukherjee partnering up with advertising on air and radio stations to allow the capability to identify and then listeners would be able to buy music from Shazam.
Now in today's time Shazam has deals with mobile handset manufacturers, iTunes, the radio, Spotify, Amazon music and Google play to capture the name and artist of the song within 10 seconds. Shazam is now worth $1 billion and across all platforms having over 500 million downloads. Shazam has changed the world for artists and listeners with outstanding feedback on both sides. It’s a personal form of engagement that makes song identification more accessible anywhere for everyone. Shazam has solved music recognition software by consulting the database that creates a fingerprint for the use of record sampling. Artists are grateful that Shazam allows communication with fans about what’s new in their music and their personal favorites. Which has created a shared discovery experience, between the user and artist.
With any great invention, unfortunately there will be some flaws and Shazam has some. That being some technological glitches that makes the app sometimes freeze. Also you need wireless connection to retrieve the desired song that you want to know the name of. What makes those flaws better and for this to be an app worthy of being downloaded on your phone is the options, promises of further development, retrieval rates and most importantly Shazams energetic performance. I personally love the Shazam app and I’m looking forward to what the future holds for the company’s further innovative ideas.
